News/Information & Job Opportunities

Associated Truss & Lumber is now stocking Preserve® ACQ Arsenic-Free, Pressure-Treated Wood.

Preserve's Proven Performance

For more than a decade, arsenic- and chromium-free Preserve treated wood has been used in some of the world's most environmentally sensitive locations. From the pristine environments of national parks in North America, Australia, Europe and Japan, to neighborhood playgrounds and backyards like yours, Preserve treated wood has been used around the globe to provide a durable building product for outdoor projects where environmental values and product safety are a priority.

Environmentally Advanced Preservative

Preserve treated wood products are available in response to concerns raised by public and government sectors of the treated wood market regarding the use of arsenic and chromium in standard pressure-treated wood. Preserve is treated with ACQ®, an environmentally advanced copper and quat preservative system that is arsenic and chromium free. The ACQ preservative system provides long-term protection from rot, decay and termites without the use of any EPA-listed hazardous chemicals.

Preserve Applications

Preserve can be used for any building project and is particularly suited for applications such as decking, playgrounds, walkways, benches, outdoor tables and chairs, raised garden beds, fencing, gazebos and landscaping, where long-term durability, product safety, and concern for the environment are priorities.

Painting and Staining or Natural Weathering

Preserve can be painted or stained to match any outdoor color scheme. High-quality oil and latex based paints and stains are recommended. Water repellent coatings can be applied to improve the weathering performance of Preserve. It is important to ensure that the wood is dry and free from surface deposits prior to applying any coating. Left uncoated, or with clear water repellent coatings, Preserve will initially weather to a natural brown color, eventually turning gray following long-term exposure to the sun.

Nails, Fasteners and Fittings

For the best results, hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel fasteners and fittings are recommended. A list of approved fastener systems is available from your Preserve supplier. Anti-corrosion coatings applied to fasteners and fittings in contact with treated wood will enhance long-term performance. Direct contact of Preserve treated wood with aluminum fasteners and fittings is not recommended.

Handling and Safety Information

Preserve pressure-treated wood is easy to work with, requiring no special precautions other than routine wood working safety procedures. When working with or machining Preserve, the following safety precautions should be followed:

  • Gloves should be worn to protect against splinters and abrasions.
  • A dust mask should be worn when machining any wood to reduce the inhalation of wood dusts.
  • Appropriate eye protection should be worn to reduce the potential for eye injury from wood dust or particles and flying debris during machining and construction.
  • Wash thoroughly with mild soap and water after working with Preserve.
  • Wood scraps should be disposed of by burial in ordinary landfills. Do not burn.

Preserve's Performance Guaranteed

Preserve is the only arsenic- and chromium-free pressure-treated wood backed by a Lifetime Limited Warranty!
